Virtually all Photoshop Beginners need to learn how to create Photoshop cutouts for producing great photo artwork. This Photoshop tutorial for beginners will guide you through the basics steps to make really awesome photo artwork through combining multiple photos that will make your creations stand out from the rest.
Making your cutout photos look smooth without the jagged corners and rough edges may appear complicated, but you will soon be producing artwork like the pros do.
Photoshop beginners need to start off by just learning the basics, without trying to run before you can walk, otherwise you may decide to remove your Photoshop direct access icon from your desktop. So the first tool you need to find to create Photoshop cutouts is the lasso tool. There are in fact several lasso tools, basic, magnetic, and the polygonal lasso tool, but for real precision cutouts we will just be focusing on the magnetic and polygonal lassos.
Photoshop beginners cutout techniques.
1) Select image.
2) zoom into a range of about 150-300% so you are clearly able to see the picture to be cutout.
3) Now select the polygonal lasso tool and take your time to select points around the edges of your image, until the last point connects with the first point, and at this stage the cutout is selected.
Using the feathering technique for a better finish
If you then select the Feather option, you will be given the option of how many pixels you would like to feather, or blur around your cutout selection. The amount of pixels selected shall determine the precision of the photo cutout as well as the size of the picture, and for Photoshop beginners I would recommend between 2 and 10 pixels for the smoothest results.
Play around with the pixels and remember that you can always undo anything that doesn’t turn out perfect. I hope you have enjoyed the first of a new series of Photoshop tutorials for beginners, and that you can now produce Photoshop cutouts and photo artwork like the pros do.
